The High Anti-Corruption Court has restricted the movement of MP Yurchenko in connection with a bribery case
On April 30, the High Anti-Corruption Court amended the preventive measure imposed on MP Oleksandr Yurchenko, ordering him not to leave the Kyiv region until August 30, 2026. The prosecutor insisted on detention and the imposition of a 3 million hryvnia bail due to the defendant’s systematic failure to appear at hearings; however, the court granted the motion only in part.
This was reported by Suspilne, noting that the decision was announced in the courtroom.
The case concerns events in 2020, when Yurchenko and his assistant were accused of receiving improper benefits for making amendments to a draft law on waste management. According to the investigation, the lawmaker demanded money from a representative of a company planning to build a waste processing plant in exchange for lobbying for a “green tariff.” The lawmaker himself denies the charges and claims he is doing everything possible to facilitate the trial, despite the prosecution’s allegations that he is delaying the proceedings.
The court denied the prosecution’s request to forfeit the bail to the state, despite the prosecution’s arguments regarding violations of procedural obligations. Yurchenko stated that he had missed only a few hearings for valid reasons and had always informed the court of this. The lawmaker plans to discuss further steps regarding the appeal with his defense team after reviewing the full text of the ruling. The trial has been ongoing for five years.
In September 2020, MP Oleksandr Yurchenko was served with a notice of suspicion of receiving and soliciting a bribe in the amount of $200,000.
Bail in the amount of 3,165,600 hryvnias was posted for the MP.
In turn, Oleksandr Yurchenko stated that he had not committed any illegal acts and intends to “continue fighting.”
