Hundreds of thousands of children from internally displaced families risk losing state assistance due to the requirement that they attend school in their current place of residence.
This was reported by Maksym Tkachenko, head of the working group of the Verkhovna Rada’s Temporary Investigative Commission on Housing for IDPs.
This refers to a monthly payment of 3,000 hryvnias per child, which the state has reinstated for displaced families. Formally, it is not income-dependent; however, one of the conditions is that the child must attend school at their place of residence.
This requirement creates a problem for children who continue to study remotely, particularly in schools from temporarily occupied territories.
According to Tkachenko, hundreds of thousands of children could be at risk. For example, among Mariupol schoolchildren alone, about 5,000 continue their studies online at relocated schools.
He noted that such a rule could deprive a significant number of families of support, as they are unable to transfer their children to in-person schooling.
Among the possible solutions, they propose introducing a transition period—specifically, maintaining payments at least until September so that families can adapt to the new conditions.
