Vaping can damage the lungs so severely that a transplant may be needed as early as age 30 — Todurov
Vapes contain substances used to preserve corpses, and their effects can cause serious lung damage. According to Todurov, as a result of this exposure, a lung transplant may be necessary as early as age 30.
He says the consequences of using e-cigarettes can be extremely serious.
"E-cigarettes are even worse because they contain substances used to preserve corpses. And we were just in Boston with our colleagues. Some clinics in the U.S. already have separate departments dedicated to performing lung transplants on young people. E-cigarettes damage lung tissue to such an extent that people as young as 30 may need a lung transplant,” Todurov stated.
The doctor also emphasized the risks of traditional smoking. According to him, people who smoke about 10 cigarettes a day face a significantly increased risk of developing lung cancer. Tobacco smoke, the cardiac surgeon said, damages not only lung tissue but also blood vessels.
The cardiac surgeon also spoke specifically about quitting smoking. In his opinion, the key factor is the person’s own decision, while nicotine replacement therapies can only assist in this process.
“Quitting smoking is solely a matter of willpower. No patches, nicotine gum, or other substitutes—they can provide support, but without the willpower, you won’t quit smoking,” said Todurov.
Cardiac surgeon and director of the Heart Institute Boris Todurov spoke about this in the latest episode of FEDORIV VLOG.
