The Supreme Court is preparing to overturn the ruling on "corrupt official" Sytnyk

The Supreme Court is preparing to overturn the ruling on "corrupt official" Sytnyk

On March 24, the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court may issue a landmark ruling—overturning the convictions that found former NABU Director Artem Sytnyk guilty of corruption and added him to the relevant registry.

It is expected that the basis for this will be the decision of the European Court of Human Rights in the case of “Sytnyk v. Ukraine.”

Formally—based on the decision of the European Court of Human Rights. In reality—this amounts to a complete reversal of the fact of a corruption offense already established by the court.

The ECHR materials, in particular, include the following excerpt: “The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine posted the following message on the social network Twitter: ‘The head of NABU, a corrupt official listed in the registry, is looking for an excuse to justify his unpaid drunkenness by accusing anyone but himself. In my life, I’ve gotten used to forgiving fools. It’s easier that way not to get dragged into their filth…”.

It is precisely on such arguments that decisions to revoke the status of “corrupt official” can now be based.

This means that the precedent where an official officially listed in the register of corrupt officials can be “cleared” retroactively is becoming a reality.

If such a decision is adopted, it will cause a serious public outcry, because this is not just a legal review, but a signal: even established facts can be rewritten.

The Grand Chamber’s decision will be final—and it will determine whether this case becomes yet another blow to public trust in the anti-corruption system.

Arsen Zhumadilov, Director of the Defense Procurement Agency, dismissed his deputy, Artem Sytnik, from his post.

Artem Sytnik, deputy head of the National Agency for Corruption Prevention, was dismissed from his post.
