Videl: A scheme to smuggle men into Romania was uncovered in Bukovina
Operatives from the Chernivtsi Border Guard Detachment received information about plans to illegally smuggle a Ukrainian citizen of draft age into Romania. The attempt to organize the illegal border crossing was planned to take place in the area covered by the “Herza” unit.
A local resident, acting on instructions from the organizer of the illegal scheme, was supposed to drive the client to the border and direct him on the route from there. However, border guards stopped the car and detained the violators.
During the subsequent investigation, border guards learned that the resident of the Kyiv region had paid 10,000 euros to be smuggled into Romania bypassing official border crossing points. Administrative offense charges have been filed against him.
Law enforcement officers subsequently searched the vehicle belonging to the participant in the illegal scheme. As a result of the search, 10,000 euros in cash, a cell phone, the vehicle itself, and other evidence were discovered and seized.
An accomplice in the scheme was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He was notified of his status as a suspect under Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and a preventive measure in the form of pretrial detention with the possibility of bail was imposed. Efforts are ongoing to locate the mastermind behind the illegal scheme.
The operation was conducted jointly with officers from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Chernivtsi Oblast, with operational support from the “Dozor” special unit, under the procedural supervision of the Chernivtsi District Prosecutor’s Office.
