Video: The State Bureau of Investigation and the EUAM Have Launched an Anti-Bribery Campaign
The State Bureau of Investigations, in collaboration with the EU Advisory Mission in Ukraine, has launched a nationwide campaign titled “Bribery Has Consequences.” Its goal is to remind people of the legal consequences of bribery and to highlight the potential consequences of offering or accepting an illegal benefit.
The EUAM notes that the campaign aims to change the perception of bribery as a simple way to solve problems. The organizers emphasize that liability can apply to both the person who takes a bribe and the person who offers it.
The first campaign banners have already appeared in the Kyiv metro. They feature a ball of red yarn and the caption: “Bribes Have Consequences. The Thread Will Lead Back to You.”
The poster also features a QR code that can be scanned to report a possible corruption offense to the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
The campaign is a continuation of the SBI’s collaboration with the EUAM in the field of communications. With the Mission’s support, the Bureau developed a communications strategy to help determine what to discuss and with whom.
“Our cooperation with the DBR is based on a strategic approach, research, and the use of modern digital tools. Together with our partners, we study their audiences, analyze data, identify communication needs, and, based on this, develop long-term campaigns,” said Mark Liberati, EUAM Ukraine’s Strategic Communications Advisor.
According to the advisor, this approach makes it possible to work consistently with different audiences rather than conducting isolated information campaigns.
Oksana Ushakova, Strategic Communications Expert at EUAM in Ukraine, noted that a communications strategy should be a practical tool, not just a document.
“It should serve as a practical guide for daily work: helping to determine exactly what needs to be explained to the public, who to address, and how to assess the effectiveness of communication,” Ushakova said.
According to her, the SBI’s new campaign builds on previous work and is intended to help explain to citizens the specific consequences of bribery.

Earlier, the Supreme Court upheld an 11-year prison sentence for a former judge from Dnipro on bribery charges.
As a reminder, on September 7, the High Anti-Corruption Court imposed a preventive measure on a member of the Volyn Regional Council who is suspected of receiving an unlawful benefit for facilitating the construction of an apartment building in Lutsk.
A judge from Zakarpattia, convicted of bribery, was released from prison early.
A female officer of the General Staff was detained for accepting a bribe of $14,000.
In the Chernihiv region, a detained deserter attempted to offer a bribe of 40,000 hryvnias.
The SBU and the National Police uncovered 12 schemes to evade mobilization in eight regions.
