Video: A correctional facility employee will stand trial in Lviv for injuring an inmate
In Lviv, an employee of a correctional facility will stand trial for injuring an inmate who lost sight in one eye. The case was referred to court based on the findings of an investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR).
With the assistance of the Ministry of Justice leadership, State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) officers completed a pre-trial investigation into a junior inspector from one of the departments of the Lviv correctional facility, who is accused of using violence against an inmate.
In June 2025, a verbal altercation broke out between a prison employee and a man who was in custody. During the altercation, the inspector punched the inmate in the eye area.
The injury turned out to be severe. The victim underwent emergency surgery, but his vision could not be saved—he was completely blinded in one eye, according to the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR).

According to a statement from the unit, Stepan Kaplunov, deputy commander for combat operations of the Russian Volunteer Corps, was abducted a few days ago by unknown assailants in the courtyard of his home. The soldier’s whereabouts remain unknown at this time.
