Video: Driver Who Crashed Into a Gas Station and Killed His Brother Receives Sentence

On July 10 in Kyiv, a court handed down a sentence to a 24-year-old driver who caused a fatal traffic accident at a gas station. His 17-year-old brother, who was in the car at the time, died as a result of the accident.

According to the investigation, the accident occurred in July 2023 on Brovarsky Avenue. The man, driving an Audi TT, was traveling at a speed of 83–98 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. While maneuvering, he lost control of the vehicle, crashing into two gas pumps at the station and other cars parked there.

The collision sparked a massive fire. The Audi’s passenger—the driver’s 17-year-old brother—sustained severe injuries and died in the hospital a few days later. The driver himself suffered burns over approximately 60% of his body.

Several vehicles were destroyed or damaged by the fire, including a ZAZ Lanos, a Daewoo Sens, a Hyundai Sonata, a Ford Explorer, a VAZ-21043, a Dacia Logan, a Citroën Berlingo, and a Volkswagen Passat. The gas station building and its above-ground equipment were also completely destroyed by the fire.

The court found the man guilty of violating traffic safety rules, which resulted in the victim’s death, and sentenced him to three years in prison, with a two-year suspension of his driver’s license.

In addition, the court ordered the defendant to compensate the owners of the damaged property for losses totaling nearly 25 million hryvnias.

The pretrial investigation in the case was conducted by investigators from the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv.

This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

A man from Bukovina who killed his 11-month-old daughter in a drunk-driving accident will stand trial.

Following the fatal accident on the Kyiv–Odesa highway, medical personnel continue to treat the victims. A teenager died as a result of the accident, and 10 other people were injured.

The High Anti-Corruption Court upheld the verdict in the case involving the embezzlement of funds intended for bulletproof vests.
