In the Zaporizhzhia region, law enforcement officials have notified a servicemember from one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces units that he is under suspicion of involvement in organizing the illegal smuggling of a person subject to military conscription across the state border.

According to the investigation, the man offered a soldier of the National Guard of Ukraine assistance in leaving the country outside of official border crossings and priced his services at $20,000.

Investigators claim that in May 2026, the suspect used Telegram to agree on a route and provided instructions on how to prepare for the trip and continue traveling through Ukraine.

On May 30, he met with the client in Zaporizhzhia and accompanied him as they left the city. During the trip, he stated that the final destination of the route was to be Uman, where the money transfer was planned. After that, according to the investigation, the man was to be provided with temporary housing, a change of clothes, and assistance in illegally crossing the border into Moldova.

At one of the checkpoints, the suspect presented a military ID in an attempt to avoid additional screening. He was detained that same day.

During searches, law enforcement officers seized $20,000, a cell phone, documents, and a car.

The court imposed a preventive measure on the suspect in the form of detention, with the alternative of posting bail.
