Independence Day 2026 Payments: Who Will Receive Between 450 and 3,100 Hryvnias

In 2026, Ukraine expanded the list of categories of citizens who will automatically receive financial assistance on Independence Day.

The amount of the payment depends on the category and ranges from 450 to 3,100 hryvnias.

We’ll explain below who will receive the funds without having to apply and who needs to submit an application to the Pension Fund of Ukraine.

The government has set the following amounts for one-time financial assistance:

  • 3,100 UAH—for individuals who have rendered special services to the Motherland, individuals with war-related disabilities, and former juvenile prisoners of concentration camps and ghettos in Group I;
  • 2,900 UAH – for individuals with war-related disabilities and former juvenile prisoners of concentration camps (Group II);
  • 2,700 UAH – for individuals with war-related disabilities and former juvenile prisoners of concentration camps in Group III;
  • 1,000 UAH – to combatants, victims of the Revolution of Dignity, former juvenile prisoners of concentration camps and ghettos, as well as children born in places of forced detention;
  • 650 UAH – to family members of fallen or deceased war veterans, Defenders of Ukraine, as well as to the spouses of deceased persons with war-related disabilities and other specified categories, provided they have not remarried;
  • 450 UAH – to war veterans, former concentration camp prisoners, individuals who were forcibly taken away for forced labor, as well as children of partisans, underground fighters, and other participants in the struggle against the Nazi regime.

Pensioners, recipients of subsidies and benefits who are not currently serving in the military do not need to submit an additional application.

For these citizens, the assistance will be paid in August along with their pension, housing subsidy, or benefit.

For war veterans currently serving in the military, the funds will be transferred to the accounts of the military units, institutions, or organizations where they serve.

This also applies to military personnel who are simultaneously pensioners or recipients of subsidies or benefits.

It is important that the employer has up-to-date information regarding the employee’s veteran status.

If a person is eligible for assistance but is not a pensioner or a recipient of a subsidy or benefit and is not currently serving in the military, they must apply directly to the local branch of the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU).

In a free-form application, the following must be specified:

  • the details of the identity document;
  • bank account number;
  • Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN);
  • details of the veteran’s ID card.

Copies of your passport and the relevant certificate must be attached to the application.

Documents can be submitted in several ways:

  • in person—at a Pension Fund service center or a Center for Administrative Services (CNA) in your place of residence, bringing the original documents with you;
  • by mail—to the address of the territorial office of the Pension Fund of Ukraine;
  • online—through the Pension Fund’s electronic services web portal using a qualified electronic signature (QES).

Citizens who acquire the relevant status by August 24, 2026, but do not receive the benefit by October 1, may contact the Pension Fund.

In such cases, the payment can be received by November 1, 2026.

In time for Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24, Kyiv will provide a one-time targeted cash benefit of 500–1,000 UAH to nearly 255,000 Kyiv residents, totaling 146 million UAH.

In Ukraine, people who have reached retirement age but have not accumulated sufficient insurance coverage to qualify for a pension can count on temporary government assistance—a social pension. To receive it, they must meet a number of established conditions.

In Ukraine, simply reaching a certain age is not enough to receive pension benefits. The key factor is having an insurance record, which is often confused with total work experience. Let’s take a closer look at what this means, what requirements are in effect in Ukraine in 2025, and how to find out your insurance record.
