The owner of a chain of shoe and leather goods stores in the Lviv region reimbursed the state more than 10.5 million hryvnias in unpaid VAT.

According to the State Bureau of Economic Security (SBES), the man used a “business fragmentation” scheme involving 13 sole proprietorships under his control to evade taxes. Proceeds from the sale of goods were recorded under the names of store employees who did not, in fact, engage in any independent business activity.

According to the investigation, over 52.8 million UAH in income was concealed from taxation in this manner during 2025. The amount of unpaid VAT totaled nearly 10.6 million UAH.

The entrepreneur fully compensated the state for the losses incurred even before being charged with a criminal offense. A motion was filed with the court to exempt him from criminal liability in connection with the compensation of losses.
