Volodymyr Zelenskyy wished Ukrainians a happy Easter
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska addressed the nation on the occasion of the joyous Easter holiday.
In his message, recorded against the backdrop of St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, the head of state emphasized the indomitable Ukrainian spirit and identity, which have remained unshaken throughout more than 1,500 days of the great battle for life.
The President noted that today the war is being fought not only directly on the battlefield, but also on the level of emotions, character, and faith.
It is the very meaning of Easter, according to the country’s leader, that helps Ukrainians not to lose heart in times of global turmoil and to find light even in the darkest moments of history.
“God is in the midst of the city, and it shall not be moved. These words are inscribed here, above our Oranta, in our great St. Sophia Cathedral. And these words are endowed with extraordinary power, which we have felt throughout more than 1,500 days of the battle for life, in which our Ukraine, our capital, our people, and our faith remain steadfast,” emphasized Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
This year’s holiday marks the fifth Easter that Ukraine has celebrated amid a full-scale war.
The head of state noted that despite all the trials, Ukrainians are preserving their family traditions: preparing baskets, baking Easter cakes, and painting Easter eggs, proving that the will to live is stronger than any aggression.
The president paid special attention to the defenders who are fighting on the front lines for Ukrainian children’s right to laughter and safety in their own homes.
He noted that faith in the victory of peace over war is stronger today than ever, and that Ukrainians are not merely waiting for a miracle but are creating it with their own hands every day.
“We rely not only on divine forces but also on our security and defense forces. We believe equally in God’s mercy and our own courage. We hope for the intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary and the accuracy of our long-range firepower,” the president stated, emphasizing the importance of combining faith with concrete action.
