The man detained for attacking police officers in Lviv is a member of the 53rd Brigade's Special Forces Unit
Oleg Gavrilov, the suspect in the attack on police officers in Lviv, told the court that he is a soldier in the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade and has been on unauthorized leave since February of this year.
This information came to light during a hearing at the Sykhiv District Court in Lviv, where a pretrial detention measure is being determined for him. The man was brought into the courtroom in handcuffs. According to media reports, he had visible scratches on his face. He did not respond to journalists’ questions about the reasons for the attack.
During the hearing, Gavrilov’s attorney, Olga Huk, stated that her client had sustained injuries during his arrest. According to her, he was allegedly diagnosed with a rib injury, a head contusion, and other injuries.
The defense asked the court to place the man under house arrest, noting that he admits his guilt and is remorseful. At the same time, the prosecutor stated that Gavrilov refused to testify and requested that he be remanded in custody without the possibility of bail.
The suspect himself told the court that he had no preference regarding the choice of a preventive measure and did not explain the circumstances of the incident. During the hearing, Gavrilov said that he had served in the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade with the rank of private, but had deserted his unit in February 2025.
