Zelenskyy announced tests of the Freyja anti-ballistic missile system
Developers are ready to begin the first phase of testing for the Freyja anti-ballistic system, which Ukraine is developing in collaboration with its European allies.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made
this statement to the German media outlet DW.
According to the head of state, he expects the first tests to begin by the end of December 2026.
“Time is running out,” Zelenskyy emphasized, commenting on Ukraine’s urgency in this matter.
He also officially confirmed that new European companies continue to join this project. A number of agreements were recently signed, though the president did not disclose any details.
Incidentally, during his visit to Canada, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine plans to have a new anti-ballistic system at its disposal by the end of the year.
“The companies told us that they would need 20 to 30 years to develop this new ballistic system. I said that we don’t want such a long war. Absolutely not. That’s a different world; that’s the 20th century. Now we have new technologies and a new Ukraine, and we can do this much faster. And we expect to have our first system by the end of this year,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
The head of state expects that during the meetings scheduled for late September in New York, Ukraine will gain a clearer understanding of the further timeline of actions. At the same time, Kyiv is currently counting on receiving additional Patriot air defense systems.
The president also noted that Ukraine trusts the American side, particularly thanks to U.S. support in the development and implementation of technologies.
As a reminder, following talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in Calgary, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Canada is ready to join the European missile defense program FREYJA.
