Zelenskyy has appointed Yevhen Khmara to serve as acting defense minister

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he has tasked Yevhen Khmara with serving as acting Minister of Defense of Ukraine and that, once the necessary legal procedures are completed, he will submit a proposal to the Verkhovna Rada regarding Khmara’s appointment to this position.

According to the head of state, he discussed with Khmara the conduct of long-range operations against Russia, providing the Defense Forces with the necessary resources, and further reform of the defense sector.

Zelenskyy noted that Khmara has significant experience in conducting high-tech strike operations, as well as in management at the SBU’s “Alpha” Special Operations Center. In the president’s view, this experience will be a key asset in his role as head of the Ministry of Defense.

The president also emphasized that Ukraine will continue to develop defense programs, including funding combat brigades, equipping the military with all types of drones, ensuring the fair distribution of personnel, and implementing agreements with international partners.
