Zelenskyy outlined the reasons why Russia might feel more confident ahead of the talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that there are at least five factors that could strengthen Russia’s position ahead of potential new negotiations.
According to him, in recent days Ukraine has been receiving signals from the U.S. about a possible resumption of the negotiation process. At the same time, it is important to prevent the Russian side from approaching the process with a sense of superiority.
Zelenskyy cited the situation in the Middle East as the first factor, noting that it is driving up global oil prices and, consequently, Russia’s revenues.
The second factor is the active use of air defense systems in other regions, which could create a risk of shortages for Ukraine.
The third factor the president cited was the delay in adopting the 20th package of EU sanctions, which could have increased pressure on Russia.
The fourth factor is the easing of some U.S. sanctions, which, according to him, brings additional funds to the aggressor country’s budget.
Zelenskyy cited uncertainty regarding the EU’s financial support for Ukraine in the form of a €90 billion loan—particularly due to delays in its release—as the fifth factor.
The president emphasized that the attitude with which the Russians approach potential negotiations depends on the stance of their partners.
The Kremlin rudely rejected France’s proposal to involve the EU in peace talks.
The process of U.S. mediation in resolving the war between Russia and Ukraine is under threat due to Donald Trump’s loss of interest in the negotiations and the escalation of the situation in the Middle East.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated the need for a personal meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump due to a number of critical issues requiring urgent progress.
