Zelenskyy thanked Britain for its efforts to combat Russia's shadow fleet

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for granting British law enforcement agencies the authority to stop and detain the Russian shadow fleet.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on social media.

“I thank Starmer and the United Kingdom for increasing pressure on the Russian shadow fleet. Granting British law enforcement the ability to stop and detain sanctioned vessels is a timely step, especially now that global pressure on Russia is gradually weakening,” Zelenskyy wrote on the social media platform.

The president emphasized that revenues from the illegal oil trade go directly to the Russian war machine, and any actions that cut off this flow bring peace closer and make Europe safer.

“Sanctioned tankers must be stopped, and the oil must be seized. I thank the JEF countries for their readiness to jointly inspect these vessels and call on other European partners to follow this example,” Zelenskyy added.

Ukraine has launched active diplomatic efforts with partners to block Russian tankers and confiscate the aggressor’s oil.

As a reminder, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) has identified 66 tankers belonging to Russia’s “shadow fleet.”

Also, despite loud statements about combating the Russian “shadow fleet,” the British authorities have yet to take any real measures against vessels subject to sanctions.
