Zelenskyy explained why the peace talks have stalled

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attributed the lack of a date for the next trilateral talks to security restrictions imposed by the U.S. side and Russia’s unwillingness to meet in Washington.

During a televised marathon, the head of state noted that due to the U.S. conflict with Iran, American negotiating teams are currently not traveling abroad. This creates a diplomatic impasse, as Russian representatives categorically refuse to visit the United States, although they are ready for dialogue in other venues.

In this situation, Ukraine is effectively acting as a mediator, trying to agree on a location acceptable to all parties. Zelenskyy emphasized that Kyiv is ready for negotiations anywhere in the world, and Turkey, Switzerland, European countries, or the Middle East are being considered as possible options. Despite daily contacts at the working-group level, U.S. security protocols remain the main obstacle to holding a full-scale face-to-face meeting. The president added that Ukrainian diplomats continue to seek a compromise solution that would allow for the resumption of direct trilateral dialogue in the near future.
