A 16-year-old high school student from the Kyiv region has developed a system to protect drones from electronic warfare
Vadym Dobrovolsky, a student from the Kyiv region, has developed the PhAInix device, which helps Ukrainian drones counter Russian electronic warfare systems. The system automatically changes the communication frequency after a signal loss, improving the drones’ effectiveness.
United24 notes that due to Russian electronic warfare systems, about 70% of Ukrainian drones fail to reach their targets. After losing communication, drones may crash or return, which often reveals the operator’s location.
According to the platform, the device automatically changes the communication frequency as soon as the drone loses the signal. The system can switch frequencies up to seven times, allowing the drone to continue its mission despite electronic warfare (EW) interference.
“According to research findings, the PhAInix system increases drone efficiency by up to 242%,” states a post by United24.
The war inspired the young man to create this technology. His father serves as a drone operator in the 79th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade, and Vadym wanted to help him specifically. Over time, the technology has found much broader application.
“Ukrainian high school students are creating technologies that save the lives of hundreds of defenders,” United24 noted.
For the first time in history, Russia plans to begin importing diesel fuel due to a sharp decline in domestic production and a shortage in the domestic market.
The Russian Red Cross has begun building up additional stockpiles of humanitarian aid for the temporarily occupied Crimea and Sevastopol following the declaration of a state of emergency on the peninsula.
On the temporarily occupied Crimean Peninsula, local residents report prolonged power outages, fuel shortages, rising prices, and problems with social infrastructure. According to them, the situation is particularly dire in the northern regions of the peninsula.
As a reminder, Ukraine has announced that it struck 19 Russian tankers carrying fuel for Crimea.
