Zelenskyy appointed Drapato as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Major General Mykhailo Drapaty, commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, replacing Oleksandr Syrskyi.
This was announced in a post by the president on Telegram.
“I have decided that Mykhailo Drapatyi will become the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Together with Mykhailo, Yevhen Khmara, and Pavlo Palisa, we have determined how the structure of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine should be reorganized. The fact is that Oleksandr Syrskyi ensured Ukraine’s success in the defense of Kyiv, in the Kharkiv offensive, and in the Kursk operation. We have come a long way; the defense of Ukraine continues, and every soldier deserves to be treated with respect. I am grateful to Oleksandr Syrskyi and to each of our soldiers for Ukraine’s strong positions on the front lines. I am grateful to Mykhailo Drapatiy for sharing this very perspective. “Today, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Andriy Hnatov, and I discussed future service arrangements and the proper handover of responsibilities,” Zelenskyy said.
As a reminder, on July 21, Oleksandr Syrskyi was relieved of his duties as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In several cities across Ukraine, people once again took to the streets to rally in support of Fedorov.
On Tuesday, July 21, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. This was reported by the president’s communications adviser, Dmytro Lytvyn. He also told reporters that the president is still holding meetings.
