Zelensky invited Witkoff and Kushner to Kyiv ahead of his visit to Moscow
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the continuation of dialogue with the United States regarding security guarantees and the future format of negotiations.
Specifically, this concerns a possible visit by U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East Stephen Witkoff and Jared Kushner. According to Zelenskyy, he suggested that the American delegation visit Ukraine first and then travel to Moscow.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this during a closed-door meeting with media representatives.
According to the president, the Ukrainian side has repeatedly emphasized that a visit by American representatives to Kyiv would be a fair step. Preliminary agreements regarding the visit existed even before the situation in the Middle East stabilized.
“We have long discussed with the American side, specifically with Witkoff and Kushner, that it is fair to come to Kyiv. We agreed that they would come here. Even before the ceasefire in the Middle East and while active hostilities were still ongoing there, I told them: ‘Come to us, and then go to Moscow. Let’s hold a trilateral meeting in this format,” Zelenskyy said.
Currently, the American side is hesitant about long-distance travel due to the need to remain close to the U.S. president. However, the format of the meeting remains under discussion.
“It’s still hard to say whether they’ll actually come to us, or whether the trilateral meeting of the negotiating teams will take place somewhere in another country. If such a meeting can happen sooner, then so be it,” the head of state added.
According to the president, the negotiations are primarily focused on the security track. The Ukrainian negotiating team is already preparing specific proposals to present to the partners.
“We discussed security guarantees with them. Our team is working on this. We will show the Americans what we are proposing, and we expect that diplomacy will move forward. From our side, everything is definitely being done for diplomacy,” emphasized Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy commented onthe situation in Transnistria and the threats in the Vinnytsia region.
Zelenskyy awarded a number of cities the title of Hero City of Ukraine.
Ukraine has received new missiles for the Patriot system, Zelenskyy said.
Air defense forces shot down113 Russian drones; there were hits in six locations.
