Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued his first statement following the first round of negotiations with U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
The head of state emphasized that Ukraine considers Donald Trump’s participation as the chief negotiator to be important, and stressed the need to achieve a just peace that would prevent any future aggression.
“We do not want suffering or death. We want this war to end justly and in such a way that Russia no longer has the opportunity to aggress against Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said.
Another round of talks with U.S. representatives is upcoming, which will be joined by national security advisers from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
