More than 20% of residential buildings in Ukraine are not yet ready for winter
In Ukraine, preparations are underway in the housing and utilities sector for the heating season. As of early September, 79.2% of residential buildings—more than 114,000 properties—are ready.
The greatest attention is currently being paid to regions near the front lines, where critical infrastructure remains under constant threat of Russian attacks. There, it is important not only to prepare the networks for winter but also to create the necessary reserves for rapid restoration in case of damage.
A total of 14,194 boiler rooms and more than 13,300 km of heating networks have already been prepared for the winter. Preparations have also been completed for 20,600 social infrastructure facilities—including schools, kindergartens, and medical facilities.
In the water supply system, 2,900 water pumping stations and more than 8,300 wells have been prepared.
Road infrastructure is also being prepared for winter operations. Services have prepared 4,124 units of specialized equipment, repaired 8.6 million square meters of roads, and stockpiled over 1.3 million metric tons of deicing materials and reagents.
At the same time, preparations for the heating season have not yet been completed in more than 20% of Ukraine’s residential buildings.

Ukraine is already preparing its power grid for the upcoming heating season, which is forecast to be no less challenging than the previous one.
