In Donetsk Oblast, the chief of staff of a military unit was notified that he is under suspicion
Officials from the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR), in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and with the assistance of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, served a notice of suspicion to the chief of staff of one of the military units stationed in the Donetsk region. Due to improper verification of data, military personnel were unjustifiably paid nearly 2.4 million hryvnias in “combat pay.”
According to the investigation, the officer was responsible for verifying and documenting the direct participation of service members in combat operations or in supporting such operations.
At the same time, law enforcement officials allege that the chief of staff submitted reports to the unit commander containing improperly verified information regarding the military personnel’s performance of combat missions in the Donetsk region.
Based on these documents, service members were unlawfully paid “combat” allowances. As a result, the state suffered losses of nearly 2.4 million hryvnias.
The officer is charged with negligent attitude toward military service, which caused serious consequences and was committed under martial law, pursuant to Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The penalty under this article provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment.
Currently, State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) officials are taking steps to recover the losses incurred by the state. The Luhansk Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense in the Eastern Region is overseeing the proceedings in this case.

On August 20, 2026, the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) launched a special operation involving 21 criminal proceedings, during which 72 searches are being conducted in various regions of Ukraine. Based on the results of the investigative actions, law enforcement officials plan to serve notices of suspicion to 22 individuals.
The SBI detained the deputy head of the Black Sea branch of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority and a representative of a private company. According to investigators, they demanded 500,000 hryvnias in exchange for influencing officials at “Ukrzaliznytsia” who were to make the necessary decision regarding a commercial contract.
