Zelenskyy met with Belarusian opposition leader Tikhanovskaya
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held an official meeting with Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, who was visiting Ukraine on an official visit for the first time.
The talks took place in Kyiv on the sidelines of a major international summit that brought together representatives from 24 countries, primarily from the European region.
The main topic of discussion was countering Russian aggression and preserving the sovereignty of both neighboring countries.
During the dialogue, the Head of State emphasized the Kremlin’s ongoing attempts to bring Belarusian resources under its complete control.
The Russian Federation has not abandoned its intentions to further integrate Minsk’s military machine into a full-scale war against the Ukrainian people.
Zelenskyy expressed solidarity with the democratic forces and citizens of Belarus who are resisting the dictatorship and trying to break free from Moscow’s influence.
“We all support the Belarusian people’s desire to free themselves from Russian interference, and we know that Russia is now trying to drag Belarus even deeper into this war against Ukraine. And we appreciate every show of support from Belarusians for a free Ukraine, and we know that the day will come when our countries will once again have good-neighborly relations based on the genuine independence of both Ukraine and Belarus from Moscow,” the president wrote on his social media accounts.
The parties paid special attention to coordinating joint actions on the international stage and protecting the rights of Belarusian volunteers fighting in the ranks of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
The Ukrainian leader assured that our country has always respected the sovereignty of its neighbors and has never posed any security risks to them.
The future stability of Eastern Europe directly depends on the ability of nations to resist the imperial ambitions of the Russian Federation.
“Today, this is exactly what we discussed with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and her team, who are visiting Kyiv. Ukraine has never been a threat to Belarus. And we are grateful to those Belarusians who stand with Ukraine now, as the fate of our independence—and the independence of every nation bordering Russia—is being decided,” Zelenskyy added.
