A Zhytomyr resident was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a woman and her 13-year-old daughter
The Supreme Court agreed with the prosecutors’ position, dismissed the defense attorney’s appeal, and upheld the sentence. The tragedy occurred in September 2021 in Zhytomyr.
At that time, a 23-year-old man, under the influence of drugs, saw a woman returning home near Shoduarivsky Park. He followed her to her building, waited until she entered her apartment, and broke in.
Her 13-year-old daughter was inside the apartment.

The convicted man raped the woman, stole her jewelry, and then inflicted numerous stab wounds on both the mother and the child. To cover up the crime, he set the apartment on fire and fled.
During the trial, the man attempted to evade responsibility and claimed that another person was allegedly involved in the murder. Juvenile prosecutors refuted this version of events and presented evidence to the court that confirmed his guilt.
He was found guilty of the intentional murder of two people, including a minor, committed for financial gain; the intentional destruction of property; robbery; unlawful seizure of a vehicle; and rape.

“In this case, there could be no other just outcome than life imprisonment. The murder of a mother and her 13-year-old daughter is a crime for which the guilty party must be permanently isolated from society. Prosecutors proved his guilt, refuted attempts to shift responsibility onto another person, and on June 11, 2026, the Supreme Court upheld the legality of the verdict,” said Deputy Prosecutor General Viktor Logachov, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General.
