A monument to Pushkin was removed in Kam'yanets, Cherkasy Oblast

In the town of Kam’yanka, Cherkasy District, a monument to the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin was dismantled. The monument was removed as part of an effort to clear public spaces of symbols associated with Russian cultural heritage.

“This decision was made by the Kamianka State Historical and Cultural Reserve, which owns the monument. On July 2, 2026, it was dismantled from the grounds of the central park. Under a contract for free temporary storage, it was moved to a protected area,” the press service reported.

It is noted that the dismantling was carried out by decision of the monument’s owner in accordance with the procedure established by law.

The Regional State Administration added that the monument no longer has the status of a cultural heritage site.

Unlike most Ukrainian cities, where monuments to Pushkin were erected as a classic of Russian literature, he actually visited Kamianets during his exile to the south. In the mid-1820s, the poet visited the estates of the future Decembrists, the Davydovs and the Raevskys.

This was reported to Ukrinform by the press service of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration.
