A court has sentenced a militant who defected to the enemy and fought against the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Donetsk region to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.

The convicted man is a resident of the temporarily occupied city of Donetsk, who joined illegal formations controlled by the Russian Federation back in 2014. After the start of full-scale war, he signed a contract with the Russian army.

After completing training, he was deployed—initially to set up checkpoints near Donetsk, and later transferred to an infantry brigade and sent to the front lines in the Bakhmut region.

During fighting in the Toretsk area in May 2025, Ukrainian forces destroyed most of his unit, and the militant himself was taken prisoner.

The court found him guilty of treason committed under martial law.

The investigation was conducted by SBU investigators in cooperation with law enforcement agencies of the Kyiv region under the procedural supervision of the prosecutor’s office.

The SBU also detained a Russian agent who directed airstrikes on Sloviansk.

As a reminder, the SBU has referred the case of Andriy Parubiy’s murder to court.
