100 Days of Defense: Soldiers from the 61st Brigade Captured an Invader
After holding their position for 100 days, soldiers of the 61st Separate Mechanized Steppe Brigade captured a Russian soldier as they were withdrawing. The soldiers shared their rations with the prisoner, after which the group successfully withdrew to a safe zone. The military documented the details of the operation in a video.
It is noted that on May 14, soldiers of the 61st Steppe Brigade were the first to take up the “Baron” position in the Huliaipole sector. From that moment on, a defense began that lasted 100 days.
“Daily engagements with the enemy, ambushes, assaults, enemy drones, and destroyed logistics—yet they continued to hold the position. During one of the assaults, the soldiers held off the enemy for about 30 minutes until drone operators joined the fight. During the defense, the soldiers eliminated approximately 20 occupiers," the statement reads.
The brigade reported that when it was time to withdraw, another challenge lay ahead, and it took them three days to cover the most dangerous stretch of several kilometers.
“Step by step, guided by our unmanned aerial vehicles—which monitored the enemy’s ‘eyes’—we cleared a path and used the radio to indicate when to move and when to freeze and wait,” the soldiers explained.
During the withdrawal, the Ukrainian defenders managed to capture one of the Russian assault soldiers; they shared their rations with him throughout the journey, and in the end, everyone successfully reached a safe zone.
