A Russian agent got jobs at factories in Dnipro to coordinate attacks
A Russian intelligence agent changed jobs at various companies in Dnipro in order to gather information to help the Russian Federation refine its strikes. Eventually, the man secured a position at a defense sector company, where he drew up detailed diagrams of workshops and warehouses.
The agent was exposed by the Security Service of Ukraine’s (SBU) Main Directorate for Internal Security. According to the security service, the man was recruited by Russian military intelligence, better known as the GRU.
Recently, the suspect had changed jobs several times at various companies in the region. According to investigators, he was attempting to identify a factory that supplies the Ukrainian defense sector.
Eventually, the electrician found employment at a company that was indeed linked to the military-industrial complex. Following this, SBU officers detained the man.
According to the case file, having inside access to the facilities, the suspect drew up floor plans of local factories for the Russian side. On these plans, he marked rooms containing particularly valuable equipment, production workshops, and warehouses where products were stored.
In addition, according to the SBU, the man passed on information to the Russian side regarding the specifications of finished products and the enterprises’ work schedules.
The investigation also established that the suspect’s activities were not limited to industrial facilities. He attempted to identify the locations of Ukrainian Armed Forces and Security Service units in order to target them with Russian missile and drone attacks.
SBU officers detained the man at his residence. During a search, they seized a smartphone which, according to the investigation, was used to gather intelligence and maintain contact with a “liaison” from Russia’s GRU. The SBU claims that this “liaison” was an employee of the occupying “LPR Ministry of State Security” who works for Russian military intelligence.
The detainee was notified of charges under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—treason committed under martial law. He is currently being held in custody without the right to bail. If found guilty, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
