Chubarov called for the Kerch Bridge to be destroyed as soon as possible
Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, stated that the destruction of the Kerch Bridge as soon as possible would bring the liberation of the temporarily occupied Crimea closer. He made this statement in an interview.
According to Chubarov, the Kerch Bridge remains a key logistical artery through which Russia supplies its troops on the peninsula, so putting it out of commission would have significant military importance.
At the same time, he emphasized that Ukraine must seek ways to exert pressure on the occupying authorities that minimize risks to civilians and pro-Ukrainian Crimeans.
Separately, Chubarov drew attention to the intensifying repression against the Crimean Tatars. According to him, the mass inclusion of representatives of “Crimean Solidarity” in Russia’s registry of “foreign agents” is a continuation of the policy of collective punishment that Russia is applying to the Crimean Tatar people.
“If anyone in Russia were to talk now about ‘Crimea returning to its native harbor,’ they’d get spit in the face,” Chubarov said.
