Russia’s delegation at Geneva talks to be led by Vladimir Medinsky
The Russian delegation at the upcoming round of trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia, scheduled for February 17–18 in Geneva, will be headed by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky.
This was announced by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, according to Russian media reports.
Medinsky previously led the Russian delegation during bilateral negotiations in Istanbul in the spring of 2025. The new round of talks will take place in a trilateral format with the participation of the United States and Ukraine in Geneva.
According to Peskov, the previous two rounds of trilateral negotiations were held on January 23–24 and February 4–5 in the United Arab Emirates. The latest meeting took place in Abu Dhabi, where the Russian delegation was led by the head of the GRU, Igor Kostyukov.
The upcoming round in Geneva is expected to continue diplomatic consultations between the parties.
Earlier, adviser to the President of Ukraine Dmytro Lytvyn confirmed preparations for the next round of negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump is reportedly considering withdrawing from the negotiations on the war in Ukraine in the coming weeks due to a lack of progress and a diplomatic deadlock, with Moscow unwilling to make concessions and Kyiv unable to advance its position.
According to Bloomberg columnist Marc Champion, during the presidency of Joe Biden, Vladimir Putin’s main tool for prolonging the war was nuclear escalation warnings. With Trump’s return to power, the Kremlin has allegedly shifted to using peace negotiations as a new instrument.
