The occupiers used chemical agents 237 times on the front lines in May
In May 2026, the Russian army used hazardous chemicals against Ukrainian troops on 237 occasions. Most often, the occupiers dropped these substances on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces using drones.
This was reported by Maksym Kravchuk, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Armed Forces Support Command.
According to him, Russian troops systematically use K-51 and RG-Vo gas grenades, as well as homemade munitions loaded with CS and CN agents. The main goal of such attacks is to force Ukrainian troops to leave their cover and create a tactical advantage in certain sections of the front.

The Support Forces noted that all instances of the use of hazardous chemical substances are documented, and collected samples are sent for forensic analysis.
Kravchuk reminded that the use of chemical substances as a means of warfare is prohibited by the Chemical Weapons Convention. CS and CN agents may be used by law enforcement agencies only for crowd control, but their use in combat operations is illegal.

According to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, since the start of the full-scale invasion, more than 13,500 cases of Russian troops using hazardous chemical substances against the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been recorded.
