Ukraine is training pilots to fly the "Shahed" drones

Ukraine is training pilots to fly the "Shahed" drones

The Ukrainian companies General Chereshnya and STRIX have announced a strategic partnership to develop new technologies to counter Russian attack drones. The main goal is to learn how to effectively shoot down not only conventional “Shaheds,” but also their new jet-powered variants, which fly much faster and pose a more serious threat.

Ukrainian drone manufacturers are joining forces to tackle this new challenge on the front lines. General Chereshnya and STRIX have signed an agreement on strategic cooperation in the fields of defense technologies, artificial intelligence, and modern battlefield systems.

The main focus of their work is the development of interceptor drones capable of destroying Russian attack drones, including the new jet-powered versions of the “Shaheds.” General Chereshnya reported that its BULLET line of interceptors already utilizes STRIX technology. “The General Chereshnya BULLET line of interceptors is already based on the STRIX kinetic accelerator, which successfully passed tests a year ago,” the developers noted.

Recently, the Russians have begun actively working on new versions of their attack drones. This primarily refers to jet-powered variants of the “Shahed,” as well as the so-called “Geran-4.” Unlike the classic Shahed-136s, which have long been used for attacks on Ukraine, the new drones are equipped with jet engines. This allows them to accelerate to speeds of about 600 kilometers per hour.

This poses additional challenges for air defense systems and mobile fire units. “It’s significantly faster than the classic Shahed-136, making it even harder to shoot down. That is why Ukrainian drone manufacturers are already developing interceptors tailored to these updated requirements,” the company explains.

In fact, this marks a new phase in the confrontation between attack drones and the means to counter them. The faster enemy drones become, the more sophisticated their interception systems must be.

Today, “General Chereshnya” is among the largest manufacturers of FPV drones in Ukraine. The company is well known for its frontline developments, which were created in collaboration with the military and tested directly in combat conditions. One of the most famous projects is the “General Chereshnya BULLET” interceptor, which was developed specifically to combat aerial targets. But this is not the company’s only system.

Another flagship product is the “General Chereshnya AIR,” which is already in use by more than a hundred Ukrainian brigades. According to the developers, this system has helped destroy tens of thousands of enemy drones of various types. Among them:

  • "Molniya";
  • "Lancet";
  • Supercam;
  • “Prince Oleg the Prophet”;
  • "Italmas";
  • "Orlan";
  • "Gerbera";
  • Zala, and others.

The company emphasizes that every downed drone is not just a destroyed target. It also means lives saved among Ukrainian troops, equipment protected, positions secured, and logistics routes preserved. The war is increasingly shifting to the technological realm.

While artillery and armored vehicles played the main role at the start of the full-scale invasion, drones have now become one of the primary tools on the battlefield. That is why the development of interceptor drones has become one of the key priorities for the Ukrainian defense industry. The collaboration between “General Chereshni” and STRIX is expected to accelerate the creation of new solutions that will help combat Russian attack UAVs more effectively. This is especially important given that the enemy continues to improve its drones and relies on speed, flight range, and the difficulty of interception.

Ukrainian engineers are already working to ensure that these new jet-powered targets do not gain an advantage in the sky. And it is precisely such projects that could become one of the key elements of the country’s future air defense.
