Paratroopers from the 81st Brigade thwarted a large-scale Russian assault in the Sloviansk sector
Ukrainian paratroopers, together with units of the “APACHI” Special Forces Brigade, repelled one of the largest assaults by Russian forces in the Sloviansk sector. The enemy deployed dozens of motorcycles, a tank, and armored vehicles, but failed to break through Ukrainian defenses. The offensive was halted before it even reached the Defense Forces’ positions.
In the Sloviansk sector, Ukrainian troops thwarted a massive assault by Russian forces, in which the enemy deployed several groups simultaneously, along with military equipment and a significant number of infantry. This was reported by servicemen from the “APACHI” Airborne Special Forces Battalion and the 81st Separate Slobozhansky Airborne Brigade. According to military sources, Russian units operated simultaneously from two directions—one assault group advanced from Platonivka toward Zakytne, while another moved from Siversk toward Kryva Luka. The plan called for a rapid breakthrough of Ukrainian defensive positions and consolidation on new lines.
For the attack, the enemy deployed up to 50 infantrymen, 28 motorcycles, a tank, three infantry fighting vehicles, and five vehicles, attempting to apply simultaneous pressure across several sections of the front. However, as Ukrainian military officials note, despite the scale and variety of the equipment deployed, none of the assault groups was able to even approach the first line of defense. “The sheer number of vehicles provided no advantage, as the battlefield was fully controlled by drone operators,” the unit emphasized.
Ukrainian drone operators and supporting units worked in coordination, inflicting damage even as the enemy was advancing, effectively thwarting the offensive before it could fully unfold. Military officials emphasize that the Russian army’s strategy of massing motorcycles and armored vehicles failed due to the precise coordination of Ukrainian forces and air superiority at the tactical level achieved through unmanned aerial systems. Ukrainian defense forces continue to successfully hold the city of Lyman in the Donetsk region, which is strategically important to Russia as a gateway to Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
