Putin Canceled Russia's Main Naval Parade, Even in the Pacific Ocean

Putin canceled the main naval parade for Navy Day, which was traditionally scheduled to take place in St. Petersburg and Kronstadt. Celebrations will also not take place in the country’s other naval ports—on the Baltic, Black, and Azov Seas, in the Arctic, and in the Pacific Ocean. 

Instead of the parade, only concerts, museum exhibitions, and commemorative events are planned in these cities.

This decision was prompted by security concerns and fears of a possible attack following Ukraine’s successful strikes in June on Kronstadt, where the Russian Federation’s Baltic Fleet is headquartered. Analysts note that the Russian dictator doubts the effectiveness of his own air defense system.

Instead of personally attending mass events, Putin limited himself to a video address from his office, in which he announced the expansion of the naval component of the nuclear triad and the further development of the fleet.

For the first time since 2003, the traditional festive concert on Red Square to mark Russia Day, celebrated on June 12, did not take place in the Russian capital. According to Russian media reports, the organizers decided to move the planned event to a different venue, and the list of artists scheduled to perform was significantly reduced.

The May 9 parade in Moscow was the most modest in the history of the Russian Federation.
