Putin says Russia will respond to strikes on its economy
Russian President Vladimir Putin, of the aggressor state, said that Moscow would respond to Ukrainian strikes on Russian economic infrastructure, including on the “most sensitive” sectors of Ukraine’s economy. He said this in a comment to a journalist from Russian state television, NDTV World reports, which published Reuters material.
Putin’s statement
Putin claims that Kyiv, in an attempt to harm the Russian economy, allegedly “opened Pandora’s box.” According to him, Russia will launch retaliatory strikes against economic sectors sensitive for Ukraine.
This summer, Ukraine intensified its campaign of drone strikes against Russia’s economic infrastructure. The targets included oil refineries and online retailers’ warehouses. Ukraine says this infrastructure is important to Russia’s war effort.

Grain exports and negotiations
Russia has struck Ukrainian economic infrastructure, including grain exports through the Black Sea. Putin said that such attacks, which have put Ukrainian agricultural exports at risk, would not cause food shortages on the global market because Russia, according to him, would be able to replace Ukrainian supplies. At the same time, Ukraine attacked Russian grain export infrastructure.
Previously, Russia and Ukraine adhered to a Turkish-mediated agreement to protect grain exports through the Black Sea, but Russia withdrew from it in 2023. Putin also reiterated Moscow’s position that it is ready for peace negotiations only on the basis of what he called “realities on the ground,” and criticized proposals that, according to him, Ukraine had conveyed through intermediaries.
