Zelenskyy revealed what form of mobilization Russia has chosen
Following the State Duma elections in September, Russia plans to carry out a peripheral mobilization. This will bring an additional 300,000 occupiers to the front lines.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made
this statement during a meeting with journalists on August 23.
“After the ‘elections,’ they (the Russians—ed.) will carry out a mobilization. We believe it will not take place in the major cities. But I don’t think they’ll be able to hide it very well. They’re planning for it to be a peripheral mobilization. Their goal today is an additional 300,000 for 2026, plus more for 2027,” the president said.
He noted that initially the Kremlin wanted to mobilize half a million Russians, but now it wants to send an additional 300,000 people to the front.
According to Zelenskyy, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s primary objective on the front remains the same: Kostiantynivka and Sloviansk.
The latest deadline he has given his generals is to complete the occupation of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions by the end of the year.
“I believe he will deploy the 300,000 newly mobilized troops depending on the situation in the east of our country. If he achieves the success there that he is counting on, then he may redeploy forces to another direction. For example, to a ‘buffer zone,’” the president speculated.
As a reminder, Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, stated that covert mobilization in Russia is intensifying and suggested that its scale could influence the Russian leadership’s decision regarding a new open draft.
Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, stated that the Kremlin currently has no plans to announce a mobilization after the fall elections. At the same time, he called for waiting until the end of the electoral process, hinting that the situation could change.
In Russia, authorities plan to impose fines for failure to comply with decisions made by regional leaders and operational headquarters regarding mobilization and meeting the army’s needs. The Russian government has submitted a corresponding bill to the State Duma for consideration.
