Drapaty began serving as acting commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and outlined Zelenskyy’s objectives
Major General Mykhailo Drapatiy announced that he has assumed the duties of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to him, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has tasked him with continuing and intensifying offensive operations across all domains, planning new operations behind enemy lines, developing the military and its technologies, and building up the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Drapatiy also confirmed that Major General Ihor Skybyuk, the former commander of the Airborne Assault Forces, will serve as Chief of the General Staff on his team.
As Drapatiy wrote on Facebook, he met Skibyuk in 2022 in southern Ukraine. At that time, they led the operation to liberate the Kherson region from a single command post. Drapatiy described Skibuk as a commander who can be trusted in difficult circumstances and whose decisions, experience, and personal principles can be relied upon.
The general also noted that difficult work lies ahead, and the team will operate without making grandiose promises, taking responsibility for its decisions and showing respect for the people who are holding the front lines and helping Ukraine stand its ground.
According to “Ukrainska Pravda,” as of 1:40 p.m. on Wednesday, the decree appointing Drapaty as Commander-in-Chief had not yet been published on the president’s website.
