The EU has imposed sanctions on the ABS Elektro Group, which manufactures components for Russian drones

The Council of the European Union has imposed new sanctions against one individual and five organizations that are part of the Russian military-industrial complex. The decision took effect on July 17 following its publication in the EU’s “Official Journal.”

According to the EU Council, all five companies are part of the “ABS Elektro” group, which develops and manufactures electronic and radio-electronic components necessary for waging war using drones.

Irina Kharisova, chair of the board of the “ABS Elektro” group of companies, who simultaneously heads several enterprises within the group, was also added to the sanctions list.

Officials in Brussels noted that the new restrictions were adopted as part of the sanctions regime imposed in response to Russia’s actions, which undermine Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence.

The sanctions include the freezing of assets, a ban on providing funds or economic resources to individuals and companies on the list, and a travel ban preventing Irina Kharisova from entering European Union countries.

The EU will impose new sanctions against Russia over airstrikes on Ukraine.

A bipartisan bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia, initiated by the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, already has enough co-sponsors to pass in the U.S. Senate. However, the timeline for its consideration remains uncertain at this time.
