The EU has imposed sanctions on the leadership of a Mordovian prison camp where Ukrainian prisoners were tortured

The European Union has imposed sanctions against the leadership of Penal Colony No. 10 in Mordovia, where, according to human rights activists, Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians were unlawfully detained and tortured.

Seven officials from the Russian prison system have been added to the sanctions list.

Those subject to the restrictions include the prison’s warden, Alexander Gnutov; his deputies, Alexei Anashkin, Yegor Averkin, Alexander Grishanin, Semyon Kuznetsov, and Ivan Veshkin; and the head of Medical Unit No. 13, Galina Mokshanova. They were identified as individuals involved in the cruel treatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians.

According to the project, hundreds of Ukrainians captured in the temporarily occupied territories were held at Correctional Colony No. 10. Former captives reported systematic torture, the use of electric shocks, brutal beatings, being forced to remain in stressful positions, sexual violence, staged executions, and denial of medical care. According to their testimonies, civilians were detained without trial or defined legal status.

It is also noted that prison guard Ruslan Kholbotin and paramedic Ilya Sorokin are already defendants in criminal proceedings related to war crimes.

This was reported on July 13 by “The Book of Torturers.”

As a reminder, Peskov reacted to the EU sanctions against the messaging app Max and accused Brussels of repression.

During a joint press conference on July 14, a bipartisan group of U.S. senators called on Congress to pass a bill imposing new sanctions against Russia as soon as possible without making any additional amendments.
