During the night of December 5–6, Russian forces attacked Ukraine’s railway infrastructure in the city of Fastiv, Kyiv region. As a result of the strike, 27 commuter train cars were destroyed.
This was reported by Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Balesta.
Among them were three modernized electric trains.
Balesta, together with foreign diplomats and representatives of Ukrzaliznytsia, visited the destroyed station and the electric train depot. The attack damaged an important piece of civilian infrastructure, and the estimated losses amount to approximately ₴300 million.

According to him, the depot served routes in Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Sumy regions, and its reconstruction will require roughly ₴100 million. The station sustained severe destruction and cannot be repaired — dismantling down to the building’s frame is currently underway. Modular infrastructure solutions have already been deployed to temporarily serve passengers.

Balesta emphasized that this was the first such massive strike on railway infrastructure in Kyiv region, and clearing work at the depot site is ongoing.
