In Sumy, on July 17, a nighttime attack by Russian forces damaged a number of cultural sites, residential buildings, and other civilian infrastructure.

According to Oleg Grigorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Russian troops fired five guided aerial bombs (KAB) at the city, two of which struck the central part of Sumy. 

“The shock wave damaged cultural sites that are important to Sumy. Inside the Regional Universal Scientific Library, nearly 40 window units were shattered and the glass entrance was destroyed. Photographs of our fallen defenders on the Alley of Remembrance in the city center were also damaged,” the statement reads.

In addition, seven apartment buildings, an administrative building, a business center, and a car were damaged as a result of the shelling.

Cleanup efforts are underway at the sites of the strikes. Rescue workers, law enforcement officers, utility services, and volunteers are on the scene, and a relief headquarters has been set up.

Grigorov reported this on Telegram.

As a reminder, on the morning of July 17, Russian troops launched an FPV drone strike on a market in the Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. A 70-year-old local woman was killed in the attack, and six other civilians were injured. According to preliminary reports, the strike hit people who had come to the market to buy groceries.

On July 17, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the Ukrainian Defense Forces had carried out successful long-range strikes against Russian military and infrastructure targets.
