Nigerian citizens continue to be recruited to fight in the war against Ukraine — Main Intelligence Directorate
Russia uses schemes involving promises of employment, after which people end up on the front lines. For many of them, this becomes a “one-way ticket.”
This was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Another Nigerian—Aiyebusiva Olabode Victor, recruited into the Russian occupation army—was killed in the Kharkiv region. His story is not an exception but a consistent practice of Russian recruiters: promises of work, a flight to Russia, confiscated documents, a forced contract, and the front lines.
The key point in this story is the public lies of Russian officials and the aggressor state’s disregard for Nigeria’s official demands to stop recruiting its citizens for a criminal war.

As a reminder, Russia has intensified a multi-level campaign in African countries, combining educational, cultural, and religious initiatives with covert recruitment of citizens to participate in the war against Ukraine and work at defense enterprises. Currently, over 1,400 Africans have already been drawn into such activities.
Latvia’s State Security Service (SSS) has officially confirmed a change in tactics by Russian intelligence services in the country.
