The Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) shot down a Russian MiG-29 in Crimea
Ukrainian intelligence carried out a strike on the Belbek airfield in the temporarily occupied Crimea, resulting in the destruction of a Russian MiG-29 fighter jet. In addition to the aircraft, maintenance equipment operating at the airfield during the attack was also hit.
The operation took place on the night of June 25–26, and its results were officially reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
On the night of June 25–26, 2026, Ukrainian military intelligence conducted an operation in the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea, resulting in the destruction of a Russian MiG-29 fighter jet at the Belbek airfield. According to the agency, specialists from the Main Intelligence Directorate’s Department of Unmanned Systems participated in the operation, delivering a precision strike against an enemy military facility.
In addition to the destruction of the aircraft, an airfield launch system was also hit. At the time of the strike, it was servicing a combat aircraft of the Russian occupation forces, which led to its complete destruction. Intelligence sources emphasize that the enemy’s losses could be significant in both technical and financial terms—estimated at tens of millions of dollars in damages.
The operation was the latest in a series of systematic strikes against Russian military infrastructure in the temporarily occupied Crimea, aimed at reducing Russia’s aviation capabilities in the region. This was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, during which the parties discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air defense, the situation on the front lines, and continued support for Ukraine.
