Russia has lost nearly half of its refinery capacity due to Ukrainian strikes
Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries have resulted in the loss of 42.74% of total designed oil refining capacity. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that these losses have already impacted Russia’s fuel supply and caused a fuel shortage.
In fact, in the last month alone, the Ukrainian military successfully attacked 8 Russian refineries, destroying or critically damaging more than 60 storage tanks, 58% of which contained petroleum products and 42% of which contained crude oil.
Over the past year (since August 2025), Russia has lost a total of approximately $13.5 billion in the oil sector.

The consequences of reduced refining capacity include a decline in oil production, as well as a fuel crisis in Russia. The General Staff noted that repair deadlines for the refineries are constantly being postponed due to the inability to obtain the necessary spare parts and equipment.
