Chinese workers in Russia staged a protest over delayed wages

In the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur, employees of the Chinese company "Petro-Hehua" staged a protest over unpaid wages.

Participants held signs reading “No money” and appeals to the Russian leadership, after which they staged a sit-in protest on Pervobudivnykiv Avenue. This was reported by the local Telegram channel Kasatkin Pishet, noting that the police and the Russian National Guard did not make any arrests, despite the event being unauthorized.

Mayor Dmitry Zaplutayev went to meet with the protesters to negotiate with law enforcement present, but the official post about this was later deleted from the mayor’s page. This is not the first such incident involving Petro-Hekhua staff in this city: in 2021, workers also took to the streets over financial disputes and demands to be returned to China.

The company, which operates in the oil and gas construction sector, previously stated that there were no outstanding debts, attributing the staff’s dissatisfaction solely to the amount of their pay. Currently, the situation is being resolved through negotiations between city officials, company representatives, and the Chinese construction workers. According to preliminary data, workers continue to demand full payment and the protection of their labor rights in accordance with their contracts.
