Matviyenko accuses the US of trying to weaken Russia through humanitarian aid in the 1990s
Chairperson of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko claimed that in the 1990s the United States sent humanitarian aid with the intent to destroy the Russian economy. She also alleged that American supplies of chicken drumsticks harmed Russians’ health due to supposed hormones and antibiotics.
This was reported by Russian propaganda media
However, these claims do not correspond to reality: since 1972, the use of hormones in poultry farming has been banned in the US, and antibiotic use is comparable to Russian practices. Matviyenko further stated that Russia has consistently faced attempts to weaken it and continues to live in conditions of a hybrid war.
These statements highlight the ongoing intensification of information warfare between Russia and the West, which may escalate further in the near future.
