Lithuania's energy minister spent the night in a shelter during Russia's massive attack on Kyiv
During his visit to Ukraine, Lithuanian Energy Minister Lukas Savickas was forced to spend the night in a shelter due to a massive Russian attack. The Lithuanian delegation was in Kyiv, which had become one of the main targets of the Russian offensive.
Savickas arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday. Overnight, due to a massive Russian attack on the capital and the Kyiv region, he and other members of the delegation were forced to take shelter.
On Thursday morning, the minister spoke to a Lithuanian public broadcaster about the situation in Kyiv.
“I had the opportunity to experience firsthand what most Ukrainians go through very often… The anxiety lasted all night and continues to this day. We are monitoring the situation. There are no longer any ballistic missile warnings, but the threat from drones remains,” Savickas noted.
During his visit, Savickas has already held meetings, including one with Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal.
The main topic of the two-day visit is protecting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure from Russian attacks. The parties plan to sign an agreement on exchanging expertise in this area.
On Thursday, the Lithuanian delegation is also scheduled to visit several Ukrainian energy infrastructure sites and meet with representatives of energy companies.
The Lithuanian minister’s visit comes amid yet another massive attack by Russia, which has once again demonstrated the importance of strengthening the protection of Ukraine’s energy sector and civilian infrastructure.
