In the Sumy region, Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers captured a Belarusian mercenary fighting for the Russian military
The 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade "Magura" has captured a Belarusian citizen who was fighting on the side of the Russian army.
This was reported by Ukrainian soldiers on social media.
According to the brigade, the foreigner voluntarily signed a contract with the Russian Armed Forces and arrived in Ukraine to participate in combat operations against the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
While attempting to surrender in the Sumy sector, the soldier was wounded after stepping on a landmine. He was subsequently discovered by Ukrainian troops.
Despite the difficult situation, one of the soldiers from the 47th Mechanized Brigade carried the wounded occupier on his back for about 10 kilometers through mined terrain.
“I carried him so that he could be exchanged for one of our guys,” said the soldier with the call sign “Lut.”
According to Ukrainian defenders, the captive is a foreign mercenary who fought on the side of the Russian Federation for monetary compensation. They plan to use him in prisoner exchange processes to secure the return of Ukrainian prisoners of war.

Earlier, during the mop-up operation in the village of Ternuvate in the Zaporizhzhia region, the Ukrainian Defense Forces used a ground-based robotic system that helped capture Russian soldiers.
Soldiers of the 3rd Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade shared a story from the Kharkiv region, where Russian soldiers, after surrendering, were eliminated by drone strikes carried out by their own forces.
